Goodman Warranty Not Registered? What You Pay on a Repair Quote
A Goodman AC or heat pump needs a compressor and no one knows if it was registered. See how age, state and each quote line set your bill.

The short version: Goodman pays for the failed part only, up to 10 years after installation if the unit was registered online within 60 days and up to 5 years if it wasn’t. Late registration doesn’t count, and labor and refrigerant stay on your bill either way.
Why it matters: Your unit’s age and registration status, or a California, Florida or Georgia install after that state’s cutoff date, decide whether the part line on your quote is free.
A seven-year-old Goodman heat pump needs a compressor, and nobody in the house can say whether the installer ever registered it. The quote has four lines. Compressor $1,350, labor $1,600, refrigerant $480, and $200 for the diagnostic, filter drier and parts run, $3,630 in all.
Goodman’s certificate settles most of that bill before the registration question comes up. It furnishes the replacement part and nothing else, which leaves $2,280 of this quote with the owner whether or not anyone registered the unit. Registration decides whether the $1,350 part line is free, and Goodman’s own warranty lookup can say which way that went.
The warranty clockIs It 5 Years or 10? Registration, Your State and the Install Date
Goodman’s current limited warranty certificate for split-system air conditioners and heat pumps (October 2026 edition) sets two terms. If the unit is not registered, parts are covered “for a period of up to 5 YEARS after the installation date.” If it was registered online within 60 days of installation, the term runs up to 10 years for all parts.
Day 61 is too late. Asked whether equipment can be registered after 60 days, Goodman’s FAQ answers, “No, you must register your equipment within 60 days of the installation date (or closing date) to receive the additional rights and remedies available with registration.” Registering a seven-year-old unit today leaves it on the 5-year track.
Three states take registration out of the question, each from its own install date. Goodman’s state list (updated January 2026) says owners get the registered-owner terms without registering if the unit was installed in California on or after Jan. 1, 2004, in Florida on or after July 1, 2024, or in Georgia on or after Jan. 1, 2026.
Florida’s rule sits in section 559.956 of its statutes, which says the warranty “may not be in any way conditioned upon the product registration.” The cutoff still counts, so a Florida unit installed in 2019 that nobody registered stays on the 5-year track.
The clock starts on the date the unit was originally installed, and the install invoice is the record. In a new home it’s the date you bought the house from the builder. Outside California, if neither date can be verified, Goodman counts from three months after the manufacture date, and the first four digits of the serial number on the unit give that date as YYMM.

Registration, the state rule and the install date together set how long the part is covered.
The calculatorWhich Lines of Your Quote Goodman Pays
The certificate’s wording is “a replacement part, without charge for the part only.” It won’t pay for labor, freight, or taking out the failed part and putting in the new one, and refrigerant gets a bullet of its own. For labor, Goodman’s labor FAQ points to Asure extended service plans, and those can only be added within six months of installation.
That leaves one line of a repair quote for the warranty to touch. What you pay = labor + refrigerant + other charges, plus the part itself once the unit is past its term.
Run the quote from the top through two seven-year-old units. Owner A’s unit in Ohio was never registered, so year 7 is past the 5-year term and Owner A pays the full $3,630. Owner B’s was registered within 60 days, so Goodman furnishes the $1,350 compressor and Owner B pays $2,280.

One quote at year 7 under both statuses. The part line is the only one that moves.
Change the unit’s age or the state it was installed in and the part line can flip either way, which is what the calculator below is for.
Select higher-efficiency models carry a unit-replacement certificate (the GLXT7C and GXV9S among them). On those, if the compressor in a properly registered unit fails in the first 5 years, Goodman furnishes one new, equivalent unit once instead of a part. The swap itself is still the owner’s to pay for.
Your own quote goes in here: the unit’s age from the install invoice (or the serial YYMM plus three months), its registration status, and each line as the quote shows it.
What does your Goodman repair quote cost you?
Enter your unit's age and each line on your quote. The state option counts only for California installs on or after Jan. 1, 2004, Florida on or after July 1, 2024 and Georgia on or after Jan. 1, 2026.
What you pay on the quote you entered under each status, at the unit age you entered.
If your result doesn't match your bill or notice, check the exact figure on Goodman's limited warranty certificate. Rules as of 2026-11-08
Show the breakdown and basis
You pay = labor + refrigerant + other charges + the part if the unit is past its term. Term: up to 10 years if registered online within 60 days of installation or under the California, Florida or Georgia install-date rule; up to 5 years otherwise. On unit-replacement models (GLXT7C, GXV9S and others), a registered unit whose compressor fails in the first 5 years gets one new unit instead of a part; labor and refrigerant are still yours.

What to Check Before the Repair Goes Ahead
The registration status doesn’t have to come from anyone’s memory. Goodman’s warranty lookup tool confirms coverage online, and to get a replacement part a licensed contractor has to bring the failed one to a Daikin distributor, so the part claim runs through the contractor anyway.
One request to the technician covers both.
Before I approve this, can you run the serial number through Goodman’s warranty lookup and tell me the install date and registration status it shows? If the part is covered, please send a revised quote with the part at $0 and labor, refrigerant and other charges listed line by line.
If the lookup shows a unit past year 10, or past year 5 with no registration and no state rule behind it, there is nothing to wait on from Goodman. The quote in hand is the whole bill, and a second contractor may price the same lines differently.
When the part is covered, a few things can still change that line. If the exact part is no longer made, Goodman supplies the latest part available, and any other components it requires are at your expense. A replacement part also doesn’t restart the warranty clock.
I only read the split-system certificate and the unit-replacement one. Older and higher-efficiency models can carry different terms, including a lifetime compressor warranty for the original registered owner, so the certificate on your model’s page governs. This certificate also excludes failures from faulty installation, floods, fires, wind or lightning, and it covers owner-occupied homes only.
If you bought the house with the unit already in it, the registered extra years belong to the original registered owner and spouse. Some states require the warranty to transfer on sale anyway. Florida does for units installed on or after July 1, 2023, Georgia on or after Jan. 1, 2026, and Texas on or after Sept. 1, 2021.
